THE POSSUM VISION

The Possum Vision is to harness modern technology to empower people with disabilities, enhancing their lives by increasing their independence.

Possum Limited is a privately owned British company which develops, manufactures, supplies, installs and supports electronic assistive products and systems.

The Possum Trust is an independent registered charity founded in 1984.
It is a source of funds to provide assistive technology products and services from a wide number of different suppliers to people with special needs.

OUR MISSION

Many people whose lives would be improved immeasurably by the latest Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT) do not have the personal means or the funding to acquire it.

The Possum Trust’s mission is to help meet the needs of individuals who require EAT products beyond what is available to them when there is no alternative funding.

THE EARLY DAYS

In 1984, Possum employed disabled Possum user, Ken Winter, to write applications for funding to major corporations. In the early days, the Trust’s income came from Ken’s fundraising, and from legacies and bequests. An example of a bequest is the case of Mr Leburn, whose wife was a Possum user. He left a proportion of his estate to five charities – one of which was the Possum Trust.

By providing information, advice and this very practical help, the Possum Trust aimed “to enable such persons to attain a richer enjoyment of life and to be less dependent on other persons.”

THE POSSUM TRUST TODAY

The Possum Trust continues to strive to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.

The staff and administration cost of running the Possum Trust is met by Possum Ltd, who also make an annual donation from the company’s profits and work closely with a number of Charities to seek further funding from various sources – ensuring that 100% of all donations go directly to those who need it.

Fundraising still continues and the Possum Trust has recently been chosen by two new sponsors as their nominated charity of choice.

  • The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman’s Office chose the Possum Trust as their ‘Workplace’ Charity in memory of a colleague who used Possum equipment. The staff literally went the extra mile to raise funds – including one staff member who walked the West Highland Way (95 miles).
  • The Inner Wheel Club of Atherstone also selected The Possum Trust as their chosen charity. One couple cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats in order to raise funds.

The Possum Trust is extremely grateful and would like to thank all those involved in their fund raising efforts, the money you raise is helping so many people enjoy the gift of independence.
